Is Suzuki Building a new 250cc Machine?

Maybe, if Japanese Magazine Young Machine is to be believed.

THe cover of their august issue features what they claim to be the upcoming GSX-R1000 and more importantly a GSX-R250 (or 300 perhaps). Styling apes the new GSX-RR GP bike, ideology wise though, Suzuki certainyl could use a competitive 250 or 300.

Honda, Kawasaki and Yamaha all offer shoppers choices in the 1/4 L segement. Honda has the CBR300R and CD300F, Kawasaki has the Ninja 300 and Z300 and Yamaha offers the R3 and the FZ-03 (shortly). Suzuki is leaving far to many sales on the table by ignoring this segment. Outside of north america 1/4L's are arguably the most important segment to the manufacturers.

Unfortunately the GW250 is thoroughly outclassed by its displacement bretheren and its certainly not building Suzuki's brand. Entry level bikes are one of the most effective way to hook a rider onto your brand from early days. Unless you want a GW250, Suzuki isn't doing that...but they should be.
