Is Suzuki Building a new 250cc Machine?
Maybe, if Japanese Magazine Young Machine is to be believed.
THe cover of their august issue features what they claim to be the upcoming GSX-R1000 and more importantly a GSX-R250 (or 300 perhaps). Styling apes the new GSX-RR GP bike, ideology wise though, Suzuki certainyl could use a competitive 250 or 300.
Honda, Kawasaki and Yamaha all offer shoppers choices in the 1/4 L segement.
Honda has the CBR300R and CD300F, Kawasaki has the Ninja 300 and Z300 and Yamaha offers the R3 and the FZ-03 (shortly). Suzuki is leaving far to many sales on the table by ignoring this segment. Outside of north america 1/4L's are arguably the most important segment to the manufacturers.
Unfortunately the GW250 is thoroughly outclassed by its displacement bretheren and its certainly not building Suzuki's brand
. Entry level bikes are one of the most effective way to hook a rider onto your brand from early days. Unless you want a GW250, Suzuki isn't doing that...but they should be.
