what oil, 10w-40 or 20w-50

hello friends,

here in my city the last saturday of each month the dealer or suzuki service give us the oil service change free... ...if you want to buy the oil filter that is right, but just the oil is free...... that sound great...

but some times they have 10w-40 and other 20w-50, i like to have the correct oil or the indicated by service manual (10w-40) but the this last saturday i was viewing the v strom 650 and i did not see when the mechanic was changing the oil, until the end i saw that the used oil was 20w-50...well.....

so, what do you oil use normally????

now here in my city is beginning the spring and then summer, and we are wake up with 15C and the middle day or afternoon we are with 31 C..... maybe the oil put in my bike is right while we are high temperature....

what do you think...??

That grade will be fine, don't worry. In fact if you look at your manual on page 1-5 it shows a chart with applicable oil grades and what temps to use them at. 20w-50 is good for 31 degrees Celsius.

I think we got the right oil covered but in terms of the filter I would recommend a K&N filter. It has an integrated nut at the end (for bikes) which makes it easier to work when servicing. That way you can just use a socket with a 3/8 torque wrench and tighten it down to the specific torque the manual calls for. Also I believe the filter media is better than the conventional factory filter.

Oil is sometimes a very controversial topic. For what it's worth, I just put 2400ml of Shell Rotella-T Dino 15W-40 into the new GW on her first oil change. I use this oil in all my bikes! Significantly cheaper than 'motorcycle' oil but meets all the standards and is just as good. IMHO, synthetic oil is a waste of money unless you don't plan to change your oil as often.
